Who We Are and How We Operate

Senior Centers are the hubs of community activity for people over sixty throughout our country. Ramona is privileged to have an active independent program designed for seniors, by seniors. We are separately incorporated and hold a 501-C3 (nonprofit status). Our mission is short: "To contribute to the dignity, well-being and independence of the community's seniors."

We are governed by a Board of Directors elected from our membership. The Board has a fiduciary responsibility for the corporation, hires the Director and provides the policy that guides the day to day operations. Our operating budget is funded by a grant from Aging and Independent Services (AIS) which is 49% of the PEF, Inc.’s operating budget. Other budget items we must meet are: participant donations and membership fees 18%, our own fundraising 13%, grants 20%. Our dues are $5.00 per year.

We maintain a membership roster (PEF), in-take information for all of our clients, a volunteer force of over 60 and a staff of 10. Our programs and services are available to all seniors and are not restricted to our members or those who live in the community of Ramona.

We are housed in the Ramona Community Center, a building that was constructed in the Ramona Community Park over 21 years ago by a coalition of community seniors and the Ramona Municipal Water District. Funding was provided by the Ramona Municipal Water District, CDBG Funds and the seniors of Ramona. We now occupy the space through an agreement with the Ramona Parks and Recreation Association. We pay rent ($1,200 monthly) to the Ramona Parks and Recreation Association which includes utilities.
